Along with [b:The Autobiography of Benjamin Franklin|52309|The Autobiography of Benjamin Franklin|Benjamin Franklin|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1170386832s/52309.jpg|598905], this is in my humble opinion one of the greatest autobiographies of all time. Pearls of Douglass' wisdom still resonate today, such as "Food to the indolent is poison, not sustenance."
