Oath and Honor: A Memoir and a Warning by Liz Cheney
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Five stars because, IMHO, this is the best summary of Trump and Trumpist behavior before, during, and after the Jan. 6 Attack on the Capitol. Two aspects make it so effective:
(1) Cheney can recount firsthand being terrorized by the violent mob attempting to invade the House chamber while Capitol Police officers and members of Congress barricaded the chamber doors.
(2) Using the possibilities of the audiobook format, there are audio inserts from speeches, testimony, etc. This adds to the authenticity of the review of historical events.
Two things stood out for contemporary interest and for adding to my knowledge:
1: Mike Johnson was more of a Trump enabler then I had been aware of.
2: It didn't make sense to me why Bannon would allow himself to get 4 months behind bars for defying 1/6 subpoena. Now, I know about the leaked audio where before Election Day, Bannon said Trump planned to falsely claim victory"
“That’s our strategy. He’s gonna declare himself a winner.”
The publisher's web page has the option to download the book's source notes for further study.
